Conduent, a technology services provider to several US state governments, has announced a data breach that affects over 400,000 people in Texas and other states. The breach, which occurred between October 21, 2024, and January 13, 2025, exposed personal information including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical information, and health insurance details.

The affected individuals include over 400,000 people in Texas, 76,000 in Washington, 48,000 in South Carolina, 10,000 in New Hampshire, and 378 in Maine. Conduent has filed breach notices in Oregon, Massachusetts, California, and New Hampshire.

The ransomware group SafePay has claimed responsibility for the attack and has listed Conduent on its leak site. The group has threatened to publish or sell stolen data if its demands are not met.

To protect themselves, affected individuals can check the vendor's advice, change their passwords, enable two-factor authentication, watch out for fake vendors, and consider not storing their card details. They can also set up identity monitoring to alert them if their personal information is found being traded illegally online.
