183 Million Passwords Stolen In Data Breach

October 28,2025
Update – No new Gmail breach reported. 183M exposed credentials with 16.4M newly identified
New reporting confirms that Gmail and Google systems were not directly hacked. The dataset of roughly 183 million exposed email credentials comes from older breaches and infostealer malware logs collected over time. However, security researchers have identified about 16.4 million newly-seen credentials included in this latest dump. We’ve updated this page to reflect the most accurate information available today.

What’s really happening

Over the past few days, headlines suggested a massive new Gmail breach. Google has since clarified that those reports are incorrect. The leaked credentials are not the result of a fresh attack against Google.

Instead, they’ve been gathered from previously stolen data, phishing logs, and malware-based credential theft across the web. The risk here isn’t Gmail being hacked. The risk is attackers using exposed passwords across multiple websites to break into accounts through password reuse.

Researchers have also found roughly 16.4 million credentials in this dataset that had not appeared in prior public leak collections. That does not indicate a system breach at Gmail but does mean newly-exposed passwords are circulating and attackers may attempt to use them.

What you should do

Even without a direct Gmail breach, the risk of account takeover remains real. We recommend:

• Change your Gmail password if you’ve used it on more than one site
• Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA)
• Watch for any unusual sign-in alerts or phishing emails

Reklaim will continue monitoring for any new exposures tied to your email and notify you if we detect something that needs attention.

Your privacy and security will always be our priority, and we’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

Original Post:
Gmail users have been urged to check their accounts after it was revealed that more than 183 million passwords were stolen in a data breach. The breach, which totals 3.5 terabytes of data, includes email addresses, passwords, and websites where the passwords were used. The affected data includes:

  • 183 million unique email addresses
  • Passwords used for these email addresses
  • Websites where the passwords were entered

Those affected by the breach are Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and other email providers' users. If your email address has been involved in a breach, change your password as soon as possible and enable two-factor authentication (2FA). Additionally, consider changing your password on any platform that uses your email address.
